"The Love Guru" leads Razzie Award contenders (the awards they give to the worst films).
Now, I haven't seen "The Love Guru" but from the trailer, I could tell that it was Mike Myers attempt to do Austin Powers as a guru. Now making high-concept films, or films with similar storylines to other popular films, usually works...when it is done right.
You see, if you look at I.S. member Alyn Darnay's book "The Script," you would see that high concept works only when a certain…

BRIDE WARS
Starring: Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Johnson and Candice Bergan
Directed by: Gary Winick
Rated PG for suggestive content, language and some rude behavior
By John Delia
I did not care very much for Bride Wars, but since it was targeted to women, that may be one of the reasons. Much like Sex and the City, Muriel’s Wedding or The Devil Wears Prada just to name a few, Bride Wars was too…

Directed by: Bill Duke
Rated PG-13 for sexual references and thematic elements

Although Not Easily Broken is a little preachy and somewhat predictable, I liked the film for the delivery of the challenging storyline with it’s myriad of everyday problems. Well acted out…

TOP MOVIE PICKS FOR 2008
By John Delia
In choosing my top 10 films of 2008 I took the following into consideration; most of the Best Film nominations for the Oscars come from movies that are drama related. I am not a huge fan for the way the Academy of Arts and Sciences chooses their best films, best actors, etc., in fact with some 300 plus films a year, I don’t know how the voters see them all. So I am choosing 10 films of a dramatic nature and 10 that are action adventure or…

Last night, we cast the film "The Trap." Although I am a lead actor, I also am engaged in the behind the scenes work and the director, D.S., kindly has given my production company, Raven Productions, a chance to be a part of the process. We saw a small group of excellent actors and were very happy with what we found.
We had some technical difficulties with sound on the very first audition, otherwise, it was smooth sailing. Most actors read for several characters. We were casting for…

Just a quick update as to what I have been up to as an actor.
*I am in process of filming "End of the Living," a kick-ass zombie short in which I am a lead, directed by Tommy Nelson.
*I am a lead in "The Trap," by D.S. Ullery, a short crime drama which shoots in November. I play a tough street chick.
*I just got cast in "On the Seventh Day" in the role of Nancy, a trailer trash Southerner, which also shoots in November.
*I just finished three…

Okay, I am one of those people that doesn't mind Shai LeBeouf. Ok, "Transformers" may have been a bit cheesy, but I genuinely liked "Disturbia." The film "Eagle Eye," which comes out 9.26, looks really good. Action packed. It is done by the same people as "Disturbia."
What do you think?

Personally, anything with Jackson is bound to be good. This is a premise that has been done before but I think the cop element is a twist. I am surprised at how much flack I am reading about there being an interracial couple! It's the 21st century people! Concentrate on the film. It looks like a good movie to me.

The process of auditioning can often suck. You constantly need to prove your worth. I know well what you are supposed to do, but don't always do it. In this case, I let myself get distracted by someone else's audition and let it color (or change) what I was intending to do. Now, I suppose I am the only one that knows that. I have no idea how the audition looked to others. I am sure it was adequate. But I wanted drop mouth to the floor spectacular. I guess I am a perfectionist in that way. I…

I heard about Jack Zink passing away tonight. I was shocked. I didn't know he was sick. I didn't know Jack well but back when I was a theater critic for New Times, he was always so kind to me. In a group of curmudgeon reporters, he always was the one to an extend a welcome to me and make me feel part of the old school group. He was a very kind and sincere man and I am saddened that he is gone. It is a loss to our community.

Director Tommy Nelson, featured now in IndependentSTreak.Ning.com, is doing a new short film called "End of the Living," a zombie film. This will be his second film and will be created under the name Forgotten Films.
