REVIEW: "Red Tails"

Okay, here is a very personalized (and harsh) review, which is rare for me, but I had to write down my visceral immediate reaction to this film.

I have to say I really did not like "Red Tails" but I love the fact it was made. It has historical importance and it is a great lesson for youth. But, unfortunately, it had a lot of issues. I found it contrived, predictable and often boring. Even the opening sequence did not draw me in, but looked amateurish.

The introduction of the…

FILM REVIEW: Seducing Charlie Barker

By Rachel Galvin

"Seducing Charlie Barker" is a great character study filled with unexpected twists and turns and comic interactions. The characters are light and funny. The situations start out realistic but always with an unexpected twist with comic results. Although it begins slowly, as the plot thickens, the interplay between the four leads…

FILM REVIEW: "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

(Possible Spoilers)

By Rachel Galvin

It is nice to see a leading lady who makes no excuses for who she is. She allows herself to be aggressive, violent and even insane, yet likable, withdrawn, introverted and vulnerable. Lisbeth Salander is a character many actresses both dream about yet fear. The beautiful Rooney Mara stripped away convention, literally, to become this part. No more Hollywood glamour ... saying this character is rough around the edges is an…

Film Review: Mars Needs Moms By Dave Montalbano

Mars Needs Moms

By Dave Montalbano

With a title like **Mars needs Moms,** one can figure out the plot points and then wonder why this film was not released on Mother's Day. It is full mix of the frantic action mixed with corny homespun values about respecting motherhood, nothing more than a…

FILM REVIEW: "Social Network"

By Rachel Galvin

I went into this film with high expectations and left disappointed. Perhaps, it was simply because the film was not was I had anticipated. The storyline is basically the beginnings of what has become a billion-dollar enterprise -- Facebook. The plot is revealed through flashbacks intermixed with two "current day" simultaneous lawsuits. Although Jesse Eisenberg's (Zuckerberg) performance is definitely award-worthy and Napster Creator Justin… Continue

My New Job as an Associate Producer. Next Stop: Hollywood

Greetings fellow film buffs. I can’t count the number of films I’ve watched over the years in which I’ve thought to myself, “hey that was a great film, but the ending just killed it”. (Yeah, I’m talking to you, M Night Shyamalan.) I’ve started this blog because I’ve just discovered a remedy to this problem. A friend of mine who has had her movies screened at prestigious film festivals such as Sundance and Cannes led me to www.imadeamovie.com. I am so…

FILM REVIEW: "Transformers 2"

FILM REVIEW: "TRANSFORMERS 2: Rise of the Fallen"

By Rachel Galvin

Michael Bay not only has managed to make an over-100-million-dollar-movie in the opening weekend, but he has managed to make a film that is worth the price of the ticket.

Yes, the metal against metal clashing of mega-sized robots is nothing but a colorful blur, leaving the audience not sure what robot is which, especially in the beginning, and the… Continue
