ATTENTION!.....
This is not your typical cliched sport movie. Let me explain.
Ellen Page, of "Juno," stars in this film directed and written by Drew Barrymore. Drew Barrymore also stars in this film.
"Whip It" can get your head spinning around and around in the roller derby. With amazing performances and direction you get the big picture. It goes round and round. The girls are skinny and beautiful but the fights on skates are something all together. Everything is thrown in there creating such an uplift.
Comical?...... Yes.
A winning team at the end?...... No but they were close.
Jimmy Fallon, my favorite SNL comedian, hit the spot with his open mic as the host of the roller derby.
We all know what Marcia Gay Harden is good for after her religious stammering on others in a food market in Stephen King's "The Mist."..... A b-i-t-c-h. So she re-inserts that into her acting in this film with an amazing cast. Guess what? She lightens up a little bit more and takes the next step in portraying her character to be elegant.
Daniel Stern took quite a long time to be put back on the big screen. He was also funny.
The conical parts were thrown around the story through different conflicts. The story line wasn't even focused on it as much as "Zombieland" was. It held up to it's potential and lived up to it's standards.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to see girls kicking other girls asses in a roller derby.
Since the direction took us in so many ways possible, Drew Barrymore should continue more films like this. Ellen Page is the convincing actress in the role of Bliss, a roller-skater.
Coming to think of it, did Ellen Page try to really do that for a living off set?
It takes her career to new heights....
Four stars all the way, just like what the critics said too...
By the way, two thumbs up.
