WHAT
This basic introduction to WordPress focuses on the core elements & functionality of WordPress.com - layout, content creation & management, development, & organization.  At the end of this workshop you will know how to use WordPress to manage & update your blog and use strategies that reinforce & enhance your online marketing goals & social networking strategies.

WHY
It’s simple. WordPress provides control over your data by allowing you to host your information on your own server whereas Blogspot, Tumblr, and other blogging platforms store YOUR data on THEIR server. No bueno! WordPress allows you to secure and backup your content and that’s why most of the web runs on WordPress.

Understand administrator’s dashboard, configuration settings, and features. 
Essential Plugins for functionality, security and optimization. 
Understand widgets and how to add/change them.
Learn the difference between pages and posts. 
Add images, documents, embed video, and more to your pages and posts.
Understand the basics of HTML (shortcodes and quicktags)
Organize content with categories and tags.
Create your first page and post.

MATERIALS
Bring your laptop! You need to have a domain name & web hosting with WordPress installed. Intructions on WordPress installation process will be Emailed upon registration.
Resources: Digital/print copy of tips, tricks, and shortcuts will be provided.
Tools: A bookmarks folder with useful websites will be provided.
