FLIFF-- opening weekend wrap up!

The Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival kicked off on Friday, Oct. 21 with the film "About Fifty" and producers/ writers Drew Pillsbury and Marty Grey Gottlieb were in attendance.

On Saturday night, the red carpet brought in celebrities like Penelope Ann Miller, who starred in the movie "The Artist," a black and white silent film with English subtitles about a chance meeting and the subsequent destinies of the duo at the time of the advent of the talkies.

Following the film, the Starry, Starry Gala enticed with a full buffet of tasty tidbits to feed the hungry cinephiles after a full day of movie-watching.

Among the silent auction items was the Cinema Dave Adventure Pack, am oversized well-worn suitcase filled to the brim with cinematic paraphenalia gathered for quite some time by none other than Cinema Dave, who was in attendance. Included in the package was his over 600 page epic "The Adventures of Cinema Dave." The lucky winner of his package was beyond excited to win his years of cinematic memories from the "cave" of Cinema Dave.

Meanwhile, guests kicked up their heels and mingled with stars like Beau Bridges and Dennis Haysbert, among with filmmakers who had come to the fest. from around the world.

Sunday morning came bright and early for those who attended the Chairman's Cruise. A two-hour jaunt up and down the mansion-lined Intracoastal, the cruise has become a favorite among FLIFF regulars for its delicious buffet breakfast and the chance to talk to stars and filmmakers in a more relaxed atmosphere.

On Sunday night, Beau Bridges was honored and the film he starred in "Don't Fade Away," was shown. A party at the Atlantic Hotel followed.
