TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL --10 FILMS SURE TO GENERATE A BUZZ---

The Toronto Film Festival (9/4-913) is underway! Here are a few films already rumored to be buzz-worthy:

"Burn After Reading" -- this film was already featured by me last week and its trailer can be seen under videos. It stars Brad Pitt, George Clooney and others playing against type. Director: Coen Brothers

"Che" -- the name says it all. It follows the life of Che Guavara. It stars Benicio Del Toro. Looks good. Director: Steven Soderberg

"The Hurt Locker" -- Whoo hoo ... army movie. Lots of action, evidently an attempt to dig under the psychology of war and its after-effects. Director: Kathryn Bigelow

"Me & Orson Welles" -- A bit of a deviation from "The School of Rock" for Mr. Richard Linklater, director, but, hey if you are going to go drama, go all the way. This film deals with behind the stage drama with Welles at the Mercury Theater and features Claire Danes and Zac Efron.

"Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist" -- here's one for the kiddies. Based on a popular young adult novel, it stars a hip young cast. It is made by the makers of "Juno" so there could be an adult cross-over.

"Rachel Getting Married" (no it is not me!) This should be interesting. It deals with family dynamics. Stars: Anne Hathaway, Rosemarie DeWitt and ...(drum roll) ... Debra Winger! Director: Jonathan Demme

"Religulous" -- Looks like a very irreverent look at religion, although it is supposedly fair and balanced. But when you pair Bill Maher and Larry Charles (who directed 'Borat'), who knows what you'll get!

"Rock n Rolla" -- Madonna's hubby Guy Ritchie is back. Enough said.

"Syndecdoche, New York" -- okay, the name is as original as the concept. This is the directorial debut of one Charles Kaufman but it stars the well-known Philip Seymour-Hoffman and deals with a theatrical experience that grows to the life of a city. Almost sounds very much like 'The Truman Show'??? I'm confused.

"The Wrestler" -- Dealing with a wrestler down on his luck, this film by Darren Aronofsky brings back perhaps the ultimate down on his luck actor Mickey Rourke. What happened to that guy? (I loved '9 1/2 weeks')

You may not be in the Canada, but don't worry, these films are sure to come our way soon so keep your eyes open. If you do see them, report back to Independent Streakers with your findings!
