------------------------------------------------------- CASTING: DATE: 10/25/2009 TIME: Contact for Info EVENT: CASTING CALL: 3 MALES/ 1 FEMALE for feature film "Life in Solitude" LOCATION: Miami Synopsis: LIFE IN SOLITUDE (THE MOVIE) In a world lost by disappointments, lack of values, and bitterness of the soul that lead us to a life of solitude regardless of being in a crowded city, we find all these stories where all the characters face depressions that force them to find refuge in third persons, giving way to sexual demons, drugs, emotional and physical abuse that will lead them to make decisions that will take them to find life or death. What is the decision that they will take at the end? What you do in the present will determine the future. Character Breakdowns: RENZO (Late 20' s/Early 30’s) This is the leading role of the film. He is an actor, frustrated that he has to work as a cabdriver. His relationship with Alba (his girlfriend) and his inability to obtain work in his profession has him living a monotonous and bitter life. Renzo is a somewhat serious boy of few words, hard-working, and middle-class. His homosexual tendency has him living in a hell of indecision, not knowing if he should remain with Alba or with José Juan. As a child, he was very isolated. His father once found him with another male friend and the emotional and physical abuse of that moment frustrated him from then on. ALBA (Mid to late 20’s) Alba is Renzo’s girlfriend, a good-looking girl, but full of fear and with low self-esteem. She’s afraid to be alone and worries that if Renzo leaves her, she won’t find anyone else. Her great yearning is to have a son, since she feels that that would complete her. She’s of average, middle-class background. JOSE JUAN (Mid 20’s) José Juan is an actor friend of Renzo’s. Unlike Renzo, he is breaking out in his profession and he has landed a role in a play that is presented weekly in the city. He is young and gay, but not effeminate. He is in love with Renzo, but does not tell him. His parents always supported him, so he is not the typical actor that has to work tirelessly to chase his dream. He comes from a middle-class background. PAOLO (Late 20' s / Early 30’s) Paolo is a young libertine that spends all his time in a record store, drinking and getting high. He is very open and does not fear anything. After taking drugs or drinking alcohol, it does not matter to him if he is with a man or a woman. He dies of an overdose while in a lake. Paolo is a man that takes care of his physical appearance (a gym body). This character does not speak Spanish. We want an actor that does not look Latin American, more European or North American (it does not matter if he is Latin American; what is important is that he not seem Latin American). FRANCO (Late 20’s) Franco is Renzo’s best friend. He earns a living as a cabdriver. He is a man that doesn’t talk about what he doesn’t have or what isn’t true. However, he NEVER stops speaking. When he meets Rosita, his life is turned 180 degrees and he tries to win her, while becoming a better person for her. Additional Information: This is a submission casting call. He goes to a fancy pool but is embarrassed to go into the water. He doesn't know what to do, and as he's trying to leave, Lily bumps into him. Lily is a determined little girl who introduces Sal to her grandmother, Gala. When Sal sees this beautiful and elegant lady, he changes his mind and decides to stay. He looks in the mirror and finds the courage to go out to the pool. When Gala goes into the water, Lily notices Sal's nervousness and discovers his secret. She realizes he doesn't know how to swim, so she decides to teach him how. After several swimming lessons, Lily has become a true drill sergeant and Sal the dutiful student. Meanwhile, Gala looks at the entire situation with a smile and starts to care for Sal. One day as Gala is coming out of the pool, Sal notices that Gala's pendant fell in the water, a special gold pendant that was really important for her, so with Lily's authorization, he goes underwater, conquers his fears, retrieves the pendant and finally conquers Gala with a kiss.
